Well today I made a Kiwi Flan.
Hmmm can’t wait for dessert.
If anyone wants to make one like it to here is how it’s done.
Buy a large Flan base or make if you got time.
Then make the custard :
I use 500ml of milk with 5-6 very heaped teaspoons of custard powder and 2-3 tea spoons of sugar to get the more solid consistence for the base.
Measure milk, put a bit in a mug with the sugar and custard powder while the milk is starting to heat up. Keep stirring the mix in the mug until the milk starts to boil. (Have it on a low flame to hear slowly and not burn) then add the mix the the milk and keep stirring slowly until you see bubbles coming up, turn off now.
Wait a minute to cool a bit before adding to flan base, make sure there is still a little gap on the edge and not up to the top (you might have left over, a toddler comes in handy here to help dispose of those once cooled a little)
Now cut and peel the kiwi with a small sharp knife.
Cut both ends first then in thin slivers cut the peel off from one end to the other. You will need about 3 kiwis medium- large size, they need to be at the point where they start to get soft when gently squeezed. Then cut into slices and top the flan with them.
Now you can either serve it like that or add the jelly topping to it. You can use any jelly if you like or the ones sold for this purpose, but whatever you choose quick setting is best, you could also just use jelly powder or sheets with some fruit juice.
Again once prepared leave to cool for a moment so it doesn’t just run off the sides. Now add the jelly with a table spoon, starting with topping the fruit pieces then slowly filling in gaps then up to the edge and then if you got spare carefully just top it up from the middle gently spreading from there.
Leave to set and enjoy eating it. If you want to be very indulgent you can add some whipped cream too when serving up.
